Women are being sent to prison at alarming rates.

After experiencing a tour of Women's Division 4 at Cook County Dept. of  Corrections, and speaking with Supt. Katie Harrison, I was thoroughly depressed.

I visited the jail last Friday as guest of my dear friend and colleague Troi Tyler, Mid Day host (9am- 2pm) of V103 radio.  We witnessed and participated in the most exhilarating Mother's Day Celebration Ever!

After the celebration we took a tour of the jail and saw how our sisters are living.  Let me tell you, it is not a pretty picture.  I am told that 5-6 bus loads of women are taken into the facility EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!  Do you know how many women that is?  You do the math.

If mothers are going to jail, whose taking care of the children?  Extended family, usually, in the form of Grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and sadly enough, foster homes.  Many of those children wind up on the streets participating in illegal activities, and you know what that leads to.  More women in prison.

Although we cannot stop the rate of women being incarcerated individually, collectively we help them in their daily living  by donating the following:

-Time- taking the time to talk to a sister when you see one in need. (Conversation could keep a sister from making the wrong decision.)

- Don't give advice, simply share your story.  We do want we want to do, not as we are told.

-Make the decision to help a sister who is already incarcerated by donating certain items.  We are compiling a list of items and will keep you posted.  So when you go shopping for yourself, pick up one extra item for a sister in need.

-Underwear (Bras and panties of all sizes)

-Lotions

-Deoderant

-Hair Items

-Powder

-Soap

-Sanitary Products

Practically anything you can think of that you use, these women need.  Not everyone has money to purchase these items.  They are given a few items upon receiving in jail, but it doesn't last forever.  You must purchase your own items.  If you have no money, then you do without.  Not one sister in Amercia should have to do without.

Share what you have, God will continue to bless you abundantly.  Keep checking back weekly for updates on delivery locations, times etc.  Until them, keep your sisters in prayer!

Special Thanks to her Administrative Assistant Sybil Fort who is helping with all the details of making this happen for our sisters!
