The Higher Learning Network non-profit organization has been operating as the Youth Empowerment Network, which specialized in Behind-the-Scenes radio and televsion production. Working in the media, Zelda has seen youth, and now more than ever, adults who want to work in this industry, but don't understand the business aspect of it.
She also discovered that most people were beginning to try to find work in areas in the media because they believed that would bring them big bucks fast. During the trainings and conversations, she also discovered that people were looking for work in areas that did not always capitalize on their God given talents, which is where one truly excels!
So she discussed a new plan with her board members and decided to update the mission of the organization and add and addendum to include adults.
To take the mission statement a step further, they also decided that if people who came to them looking for direction and guidance, they would take them through a series of questions to discover if radio/televsion is what they should really be focusing on. As a result, the Higher Learning Network was formed, helping you to answer crucial life questions: Who am I, and Why am I here?

America’s Five Historically Black Fraternities Partner to Help Members Find Jobs
America’s five historically Black fraternities consisting of Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, and Iota Phi Theta along with Personnel Strategies Inc. (PSI) announced a partnership to jointly produce a diversity job board. The job board entitled www.GreekDiversity.com promotes career opportunities to fraternity members across America and will be featured at all fraternity websites including regional and local chapters.
The www.GreekDiversity.com will showcase employers and opportunities from a cross section of industries and locations. GreekDiversity.com will be one of the few niche job boards that will reach a truly diverse community of over 600,000 fraternity alumni and college students.
“The GreekDiversity.com job board is a great project. Our fraternity members are excited about supporting this effort and using this tool to improve their career potentials. It will also assist our corporate partners to connect with our unique market of qualified and value driven candidates.” Says Richard Lee Snow, Executive Director of Kappa Alpha Psi. “We can finally centralize all our efforts to assist our alumni and student population.”
Black fraternities are a mainstay in African American Society not just for ethnic fellowship but for initiating changes that effect politics, philanthropy and society as a whole. For employers who share similar commitments to community and society this represents an exceptional opportunity for diversity branding and recruiting.
“PSI is pleased to work in partnership with the fraternities to bring this talent base to employers throughout the country. Our employer clients have often expressed their interest in reaching a professional diversity base. We think this will be a must for all employers serious about diversity. ” states Mike Hall, President of PSI.
PSI is the nations leading producer of Diversity Job Fairs. In 2010 PSI Job Fairs will be produced in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. PSI is the only job fair producer selected by the NAACP to brand its events as NAACP Diversity Job Fairs.

To be broadcast nationally on P.B.S. on February 15 and 22.
"For Love of Liberty" is a four-hour documentary that explores the role and contributions of African American men
and women in the military from pre-Revolution to the Iraq War. It examines how a people so often denied freedom
fought heroically to preserve the freedom of their fellow countrymen. At a time when Hollywood so easily and
consistently depicts African American men as gangsters, brutes, drug dealers and abusers of their children and families,
I am very proud to share the typical and normal experiences of ordinary black men and women who did extraordinary
things so that we, their descendants, might celebrate their achievements and enjoy the freedom they secured.
Ten years in the making, we're finally able to broadcast this special tribute to America's black patriots.
Maryland Public Television is the presenting station.
The DVD will also premiere in February.

with the Food Depository to address hunger issues on the Westside of Chicago.
The Pantry is scheduled to re-open on February 12th. However, to ensure continued
quality of distribution services and programming, the Food Depository has agreed
to work with the Foo Pantry as part of an Food Pantry Oversight Committee, which
the Westside Ministers Coalition and Austin Community Ministries, have agree
to help organize.
Additionally, we want to help raise a minimum of $ 5,000 to increase the capacity
of the pantry to obtain and distribute more commodities that offer the diet and
nutritional benefits low-income, and primarily communities of color need. We will
identify and designate a local Westside to hold and assist in this fundraising effort.
WILL YOU HELP US?
To those that want to help with the Oversight of the Columbus Park Food Pantry,

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) has prepared a resource guide - www.cbcfinc.org - to highlight
some of the major provisions within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that are critical to our
community.
Stimulus Funds
Commonly called the Economic Stimulus Package, ARRA is the most comprehensive economic recovery legislation
in the United States since the New Deal of the 1930s. ARRA provides federal funding to states and local communities
for projects and programs that will address budget shortfalls for critical issues, such as employment, housing,
and health care.
“CBCF fully supports ARRA because it provides vital resources for improving the circumstances of African Americans
and all Americans who have been disproportionately affected by the current economic crisis,” said Elsie L. Scott,
president and chief executive officer for CBCF. “Our guide allows readers to quickly reference where funding is going
for education, health, economic development and social welfare – all areas that can stimulate and boost the economy
by creating and saving jobs in the private sector.”
A major source of job opportunities will come from training programs and projects. For example, $16.8 billion is allocated
for energy efficiency and conservation block grants, including funding for weatherization assistance, $636 million for business
loans programs and $50 million for YouthBuild to provide disadvantaged youth with education and employment skills,
youth development and training activities.
“One of the most important aspects of the Act is that it is intended to quickly disburse funds to revitalize and improve our most
economically vulnerable communities,” said Alana Hackshaw, Ph.D., and author of the guide. “This represents a major step
forward for many in African-American neighborhoods. With the federal agencies working with those who are responsible for
urban policies and the system of transparency and accountability among states and local communities in order to prevent waste,
fraud and abuse of funds, we can begin to turn the economy around,” she said.
The guide is available as a PDF at www.cbcfinc.org.

WRITERS MENTORING PROGRAM NOW
ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2009 - 2010 SESSION
Applications are now being accepted for the seventh session of the CBS Diversity Institute's Writers Mentoring Program.
The submission period is March 1, 2009 - May 1, 2009.
The Writers Mentoring Program helps aspiring writers to break in and move up in the business. Each participant is matched
with two mentors - one is a senior level writer/producer on a CBS or CW primetime series, the other is a CBS, CW
or Paramount TV creative executive. Participants meet regularly with their mentors for advice and support on improving
their writing skills as well as career advice and guidance.
With a total of 33 graduates in its first five years, the Program has launched 17 careers in episodic television.
The primary focus of CBS' Diversity Institute Writers Mentoring Program is to provide access and networking opportunities
for talented and motivated diverse writers - with a focus on writers of color. The program is based in Los Angeles . It begins
in September 2009 and runs through May 1, 2010.
The Writers Mentoring Program is not employment and there is no monetary compensation. It is, instead, a structured
